CHARACTERIZATION
FORMATIVE EXPERIENCES:
PHILOSOPHY:
Ellie has been raised with the inherent belief that people are not to be trusted, and that there are very few you can truly trust, and those become your found family, the people you would die for, but most importantly, kill for. Ellie is a woman that struggles with connection, but is fiercely loyal to the few that get through her carefully placed walls. She's cagey, distrustful, caustic and confrontational. Life in the Jackson town has mellowed her out a bit, but by the end of the game she has regressed somehow. Her isolationist tendencies play against her, but she's smart enough to ally herself with others with common goals, albeit with reservations.
DESIRES:
Ellie was kind of floating in a sea of depression, goals ill defined. Upon arriving to the game, she'll start working towards securing a position of safety for herself, initially pushing others away, but eventually opening up. She will seek to arm herself, to learn the basics of the world. She will hunt and scavenge for profit and influence, slowly engaging with the world around her.
FEARS:
Huge abandonment issues, nonexistent self-esteem. She's terrified of being betrayed, used or even worse, to find herself betraying and/or using others. She fears becoming a monster, the kind of person she saw she was becoming as she was trying to kill Abby. Ellie also suffers from panic attacks and has PTSD related to Joel's death, usually reliving the moments she found him about to be killed.
WRONGS:
Ellie has ruthlessly killed many, many, many people, some even tortured extensively for information. Curiously enough, she's not particularly sorry for any of that, seeing it as a necessity to further her goals. She's not proud of it, but Ellie has no intentions of apologizing for it either. No justification either; she knows what she did is wrong, but that's about it. What scares her is the possibility of going down that path again, losing sight of her humanity once again. Connecting someone, only to lose them, might bring that side of her again.
- Riley's Death: - Riley Abel was Ellie's first friend, and first love. In a post apocalyptic world, Ellie was alone and estranged from her peers, and Riley was the one person willing to give her a chance. Together they bonded and started to explore the deserted city of Boston, and Riley introduced the plea of the Fireflies to her. It was with Riley that she discovered her immunity to the Cordyceps virus, at the cost of Riley's life, as well as Ellie's discovery of her sexual attraction to women. Riley's death marked Ellie deeply, convincing her to escape to the Fireflies, who would eventually charge Joel with her, giving way to the events of the first game.
- Joel's Choice - After reaching the Firefly base, Ellie was being prepped for surgery, a procedure that would kill her, but offer the choice of figuring out a vaccine/cure for the virus. Upon learning this Joel proceeded to kill every Firefly in the facility, taking Ellie with him. He would lie to her for years about this, and when she finally confronted him with it, the truth of what happened shattered their relationship, with Ellie carrying a grudge against him for years to come, never quite managing to mend their relationship. Ellie would end up feeling like her life had been robbed of meaning, thinking that her dying on that operating table was to be her destiny, and that now she had no reason to keep on living. Joel's sudden death would also prevent her from properly moving on from this, which is something that plagues her to this day.
- Joel's Death: - The death of Joel by the hands of an enraged Abby would set Ellie down the events of the second game. While she and Joel were still trying to figure how to move on from his deception, Abby took that from her, as well as the only family Ellie had managed to keep. Joel's death would bring forth Ellie's worst characteristic to the surface. She would kill, torture and hunt down countless people in her quest for revenge, becoming much like Joel was in his youth, a ruthless mercenary willing to go as far as possible to get the job done. It wouldn't be until the very end of her rampage that Ellie would relent on her revenge, sparing Abby and retreating back to an empty house, still unable to truly move on.
- Dina and the baby: - Dina was Ellie's second love interest, a strong, skilled girl that could keep up with her, and with whom Ellie was capable of finding happiness, despite all the pain she had suffered. Her love for Dina was such that Ellie managed to give up her quest for revenge for a while, focusing on her and the child they were rising together. Ellie would ultimately leave Dina and the baby behind in order to hunt down Abby, which is something she would come to deeply regret. She misses them dearly, but is also convinced that they're better off without her.

GAMEPLAY
SUITABILITY:
Ellie is a survivor and a fighter. She's rough and crass and difficult, but she remains a good person, deep, deep down. She's hurting and needs to be surrounded by people that will remind her of her worth, but she won't do that for herself. Therefore, the setting of the game might offer a good chance for Ellie to connect with others. Sex and violence are two things that she's not a stranger to, and someone as broken as her might use these two things to forge connections with others.
SAMPLE: Description/Content Warnings
MONSTER:
Ellie becomes something resembling a Berserker; a hulking mass of muscles, fuelled entirely by rage and pain. She grows several times in size, painfully gaining muscle mass. Her skin becomes blood red, steam exuding from her body as her temperature rises. In this state, Ellie is extremely strong, and the more she's hurt the stronger she becomes, as well as being able to heal from wounds quickly and painfully, her body constantly breaking and putting itself back together as she grows and distorts. She goes on a rampage, attacking everyone and everything in her line of sight. After some time, her body begins to exude contagious Cordyceps spores that will quickly infect and turn people and animals into screaming, raging monsters; they will become normal once Ellie transforms back, but from the duration of her rampage, the infected ones will find themselves captive in their own bodies, screaming and running around, looking to hurt and infect others.
In this state, her mind is in a haze, constantly reliving her worst memories, caught between the past and the present; events and people from her past (or that resemble them) will trigger her specially strongly. She has a semblance of rationality left in her, but her emotions are so volatile that she's likely to go off the handle immediately. Ellie needs to either run out of things and people to attack, to tire herself down, or to manage to wrangle her emotions into control in order to transform back.
